There are various ways of getting around the city. My favourite is walking, the city is so beautiful you can wander for hours, with or without a purpose.
The quickest and easiest is the metro.
The city buses allow you to enjoy the sights as you travel, some of the routes are as good as a city sightseeing tour!
If you want to venture out a little further, or cross the city fast, the suburban RER trains are best.
For the more adventurous, there are the Velib city bicycles you can pick up and drop off at stations all over the city.
I’ll cover all the above in more detail in separate pages.
Above is the metro exit at Palais Royal Musée du Louvre on Place Colette. It’s called the Kiosque of the night walkers and was designed by Jean-Michelle Othoniel and installed in 2000 to mark the 100th anniversary of the metro. Made of aluminum and Murano glass, the warmer colours symbolise the day and the darker colours the night. There is a small bench, where it’s said you can sit and make chance encounters.
